A Brief History of the Church of the Hills
In 1989 God placed a vision on the heart of a young man to plant a church in central New Jersey, in hopes of reaching a lost and dying world. It was at this time that Pastor Ron and Patti Marinari began to seek God for His plans and what area they were to go.
Over the next few months, God spoke to their hearts from Psalm 121.1-2: “I lift up my eyes to the hills– where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.”
It was then that the name “The Church of the Hills” was birthed.
In 1990 “The Church of the Hills” began as a home Bible study in Bedminster, NJ with ten people committed to learning more about God’s Word. When the group grew to 25 people, it became evident that God was indeed building a church and the first official service was held at the Olde Mill Inn in Basking Ridge, NJ on April 7, 1991. Pastor Ron and Patti responded to the needs of the community by providing morning worship services, mid-week Bible studies, a woman’s Bible study and counseling.
Within two years, many other special ministries were started. During renovations at the Olde Mill Inn, the church found a new home in the Bedminster Reformed Church (March 1993) who needed someone to share expenses and space. In November of 1994, The Church of the Hills needed to relocate once again due to their early growth and changes. They then moved into the Raritan Valley Community College and held services there for over a year.
Today, The Church of the Hills owns a 25-acre tract of land on Route 206 in Bedminster, along with a renovated Equestrian Training Center that has been adapted into classrooms, offices, media space and a sanctuary. Under the leadership of Founding Pastors Ron and Patti Marinari, this facility accommodates over 70 active ministries and over 500 congregants on a weekly basis.
